How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows give you a variety of benefits for homeowners in Fargo, one being increased energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re exploring online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that has a greater density than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a larger leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s occurred:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to determine if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how long your windows have been around and the conditions causing the leak, it could make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is compromised it can impact your heating and cooling bills.
